Necessary conditions for the extension of residence permit

• New rules for submitting documents for the extension of permit residence came into force on 18 December 2015 in the Czech Republic (zákon č.326/1999Sb). You can submit documents for visa extension no sooner than 120 days before the expiry of your visa. Please note that the deadline of submitting documents for visa extension is the final day of validity period of long-term visa. If the final day of validity period of visa falls on a non-working day (Friday is not considered as a visiting day), then the last day, according to legislation of the Czech Republic, for submitting documents for an extension is regarded as the previous working day. In case you have reasons beyond the control (disease, injury, natural disaster, coup d'état, and so on) and you can't apply on time, then you are obligated to submit documents within five working days after such reasons cease to exist. When you will apply for the extension of long-term visa, you must notify the police officer about the reason, besides you must present evidence about force majeure. After five days, no circumstances will be considered. An exception is an employee card (zaměstnanecká karta). For an employee card the deadline for the submission of documents is - no sooner than 120 days and no later than 30 days before expiration of the validity period.

• When you extend the visa, the time-limit for issuing a decision on an application is 60 days after you submit a full pocket of documents. At the time of applying for a visa extension, you are given a receipt number of your case. By this receipt number you can independently check the approval on the website of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic in the information section "the status of your application" (Informace o stavu řízení). The list is updated each Monday. If the system finds your receipt number it means your application was approved. If you don't find your receipt number on the list, then your documents are under consideration. Pay attention to the fact, when you extend your visa for the first time, you have to apply the full package of documents to MOI office personally.

• After you submit your biometric data (fingerprints and photographs), the police officer will give you a specific day and time for issuing the completed card. You can receive the residence card only in person, because it is necessary to check all your personal details and pay a state duty (kolky) in the amount of 2500 CZK.

• When applying for a visa extension, all documents must be in the original form or as a notarized copy.

• In case you submitting an incomplete set of documents to extend the long-term visa, then the police officer sets the deadline for the delivery of missing documents. You can send the missing documents by mail to the address of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.

• Before applying for a visa extension, pay attention to the validity of your passport. If your passport expires on 1 April ,2017, then the visa may be extended until 1 January, 2017 (it is impossible to extend your visa for over a longer period of time). Your visa will be extended for the period of your international passport minus three months. Please note also that it is necessary to make timely (within 30 days) all changes to the passport, for example, changing your last name after you get married, otherwise your passport will be considered invalid. Corresponding changes must be made in the passport before filing documents for the extension.

• You must return your biometric card to MOI office prior the expiration.
